we came together really organically to be honest, it just happened. we were playing 3 hour live sets, comprised of covers and some originals, about 4 times a week in different formations. the album just happened too. i was always wanting to write a full length lp so i knew it was a project i’d finish, just didn’t know to what extent people would hear it. keep reading interview • nadia nair join the dots between two other bands to sum up your sound. it’s hard finding people out there who sound like me. not that i’ve looked around :p. i’ve managed to craft my work into something of my own because i like so many things and decided to blend it all into one giant thing of what i like instead of choosing one road… and i kind of searched for that freedom in everything i create. but of course i’ve had a couple of big influences in my life… there are a couple who opened up new eras in music for me and those really stood out for me. a lot of greats i guess. queen is a start. hendrix. erykah badu. skunk anansie. vivaldi. m.i.a. sade. lykke li. whitney houston. björk. rihanna. billie holiday. i tend to be drawn to a lot of powerful women. this is a really exciting time to be chatting to you, your new single ‘k’ has literally just dropped (check it out here ), could you let us know a little more about the track and the story it tells? i drew on influences from my background in violin playing. i used to play around with my violin a lot more. i was throwing a lot of old indian tapes at my friend elias and was looking for a certain sound from that in the violins. so we were nerding around with that for a while, to the point of exhaustion. but i’m pretty happy we kept going, and eventually things like the melody and lyrics just fell into place. they came from a very honest place. it wasn’t the typical “i had just come out of a relationship kind of vibe” that influenced it. i mean i had, but there were other things - a lot of people i wanted to address and i wanted to make it relatable. it’s that whole “the grass is greener on the other side” story that so many people suffer from, especially in this business which i’ve been in for a while but under the radar and doing my own thing independently. i’ve watched people get two-faced, make sacrifices without thinking and hurting people for short-term kicks. i guess that’s kind of what i’m touching on. both gentle and rough like tough love. keep reading d2d in focus • fizzy blood • fizzy blood are a band born from ambition, determination and resilience. based in leeds, their refreshing musical bravery has seen them shed any traces of the generic, with their own brand of retro-inspired rock. the band’s live shows are brimming with dark rock ‘n’ roll, a rampant urgency, and deadpan vocals which transform into a harsh, bitter howl. their unique on-stage presence soon resulted in them routinely touring the uk’s small venue circuit. fizzy blood found themselves being picked to perform at international showcase festivals locations including south by south west in texas, reeperbahn festival in germany and landing big-time tours with the likes of while she sleeps. last month, fizzy blood revealed their colossal new single ‘pink magic’. commanding and anthemic, the track showcases a new strength to fizzy blood’s sound. the new single, along with previous release ‘cfo’, will be featured on the band’s forthcoming ep of the same name, which will come later this year. having struggled to figure out where they lie within the industry fizzy blood described the ep as what they believe to be the most accurate representation of who they are as a band and where they want to take their music moving forward. they have accepted that they do not lie within the genres of metal or of indie. now they aim to move forwards being a band that excites all listeners of music. words by ellie nolan aatma, manchester - 10:15pm • the fleece, bristol - 9:15pm • rock city basement, nottingham - 6:30pm keep reading interview • sports team join the dots between two other bands to sum up your sound. pavement and pulp. we’re trying to capture the energy of the american bands we love and couple it with english lyricism. there has been a big buzz about the live show you put on, being referred to as ‘an intoxicating live prospect’ by diy mag, what is the key ingredient to your live performances?
